I've recently moved into an apartment and the amount of space I have for recording has taken a serious hit. More than likely, I have another year here but its not by any means my permanent living space. With that said, Ive got some mixing/small tracking that I need to get done in the next few months and my test mixes i've done in this room are less than ideal compared to what I was doing at my last place.
I did a quick outline of the room with paint (i had no real way to draw it to scale) and I took some quick photos. A few more details that aren't on the drawing....

-room is 11x12
-ceiling is right at 9ft
-the closet starts 4ft down the left wall from the door way and is 4 ft wide.
-The window starts about 1ft off the back wall and is 6ft wide.
-monitors and mixer are about a 1ft 1/2 off the front wall, they were a little closer in the pics

My main concern is getting the room usable for mixing. I know its not ideal to have the monitors this close to a wall but in this particular situation I don't have much choice.

ok so my main question comes to this.......

What do you think will have the largest impact on helping the room.

I can afford two of Ethans "Mini Traps" right now and thats about it if I go with his stuff.

Auralex has the 32 1x1 wedge kits for around $90 from musicians friend.

Im guessing that the mini traps will be more beneficial (they also would be better because I can stand mount them). but if I buy them, thats all the cash I have for room treatment right now.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Well, since no one else has given it a shot, here is my .02
Can you find a source for Owens Corning 703 Rigid Fiberglass? For around a buck a square foot(maybe), for $100 you can end up with MUCH more absorption, and depending on what thickness, you could really make some corner traps easily too.
I would shoot for 3" or 4". At that budget, you would probably get about 96 sq feet, which translates into (12) 2'x4' panels. But you would have to verify that with the supplier though. But this would help this room tremendously if placed correctly. Call around and see if you can find some. Wrap the panels in fabric, sew some velcro or buy some "removable" 3M picture hangers and sew a fabric or metal "wire" on the back and VOILA! absorption panels. Many ways to hang em. Even styrofoam HOOK CLEATS. Forget about frames. The edges absorb too, so use them.
As to placement:
Put one 2x4 panel ACROSS each corner at the front, 2 panels across each corner(full height) at the rear, 2 panels on each sidewall(4'x4') for early reflections, 2 on the ceiling above the monitoring position ( clouds) and if you can afford a couple of more, evenly spaced from the side walls on the rear wall. That will break up rear reflection somewhat. Anyway, thats my cheap .02 Except, forget the foam  Looks nice, performs like shit compared to 703.

Oh, I forgot this too. For the panels that hang flat on the wall, hotglue a 1"x2" or so strip of styrofoam on the back, at top and bottom of each panel. This creates a 1" airgap, which lowers the bandwidth of absorption.
Also, your speaker placement and YOUR placement reletive to the monitors affects what you are hearing too. I'm not the one to delve into that area though.

Fitz,
thanks for the info. I might be able to get the rigid fiberglass but I don't really have anywhere that I would be able to work with it and get the panels made.
If its anything like regular fiberglass insulation, I definitely would not want to just break a roll of it out in my living room lol.
