Ok heres the deal a bass player 15 inch amp a guitar player 10 inch amp another guitar player with a halfstack and a drumer all in a 12ft long 10 wide room and all there is to record right now is a 4track with 4 mics please give sugestions for mic placement and ideas for geting beter sound. Thanks

Is that "the" mechanicville? On the hudson...near albany-troy-schenectady the only place in the world you can get adirondac soda??? Micing---start with a stereo pair and try to get a balanced sound. THen use the other mics to supplement what you got already.

I just recorded a band in the same size room. I was using a VS880.. but still I had only 4 inputs. I was pretty concerned when I walked in the room and scoping it out, add in the fact that they play hard and loud. We did a bit of creative finagleing and actually ended up with a good sound. I placed 3 mics on the drums. One on the bass drum, second lodged by the snare and hi-hat, and hung the third over the toms. I plugged them into a shity 4 channel PA head, got a fair mix level and ran the line out of the head into channel 4 of my recorder. Miced the lead guitar amp on channel 3, Bass guitar direct into input 2 and ovation direct into channel one. Once home and happy, the vocalist came over and sang his in comfort. If you can do something similar with the drums I think you will be a bit happier.
