I'm about to add some near field powered monitors to my small home studio. I mostly care about the "accuracy" of the speakers and less about any coloration / uniquessness to the output.

Most of my recording is of acoustic guitar, drum box, and voice.

I'm looking in the $250 to $400/pair price range. Before anyone flogs me for not stepping up to Mackies, please just consider my request...no editorials please.

Specifically, does anyone have an opinion of the Fostex PM1's and PM 5's vs. the M-Audio BX-5's?

Thanks in advance for your input...much appreciated!

m-audio bx5 has a little more midrange to it than I'd prefer...i havent heard the fostex but doesnt it say the woofer is made out of kevlar?i wonder how accurate sounding a bullet proof woofer is.

Fostex vs M-Audio

I would check out the M-Audio BX-8's. I recently bought a pair and they are translating very well for me. Also, with the BX-8's you wont need to run a sub-woofer. In my mind that is a big plus.
Just my $0.02

B&W makes some very expensive speakers out of Kevlar.

take them to iraq and get MC alibaba to lay down some tracks...maybe al jazeera tv will have a 30 minute block of music videos. well thats interesting...I'll have to check some out.
