Don't stare at the eye.
This is less of a question and more of an encouragement: if you've got an SM7 (or in my case, SM7b) for vocals, try it on a bass cab!

I've always been a direct in kinda guy for bass (my only bass amp is nothing special) but I'm recording these pop/punk kids right now, and the bassist has a real bright sound coming through his Gallien Kruger. I still took a direct line, but I also used the SM7b on the cab about 4" out. Figured I'd mix 'em to taste. Gotta tell ya, the mic'd signal is winning.

Live and learn...:D

Yep...

I do this all the time....Ampeg SVTDI direct plus the SM-7 on the cab.

I think it's magic both live and recorded. While recording, I also use a MXL-v67g as a room mic about 10 feet in front of the cab and slightly elevated. It's a very nice way to blend in the cab's sound throw with the two other sources.

I actually use the SM7 for electric distorted guitars with an i5. It's awesome.
