does anyone have any ideas on how i should hold my mic(an shure sm58) when recording vocals?

Hold it on a mic stand ...definately.

If you're singing loud, keep it about 6-8 inches from your mouth. Closer if not.

Use a pop-screen.

If you are recording a live show or simply must hold it in your hand, don't choke up on it the way some rappers and punk singers do in videos: holding the mic with you hand right up against the back of the ball.

Also, don't do cool things like switch hands or swing the mic around. :) Wrap your hand around the sucker then don't move it. Even shifting your fingers a little will make horrible, unmusical sounds.

You'll get all kinds of funky bumps and noises on your vocal track if you don't have it on a stand, though. Use one unless you have no other choice.

ok thanks guys for the tips so far...

But now i have another problem...
When i record and listen to it the vocals sound like.. wrong... its not tight... its sounds like its a LITTLE bit after... i know im singing right when im recording i have gone through it a hundred times...
i tried to move the vocal forvard a little bit in cubase and that helped a little but it is still not right... i got a headache listening to it... why is this happening??? im not using a mixer when i record i connect it directly to the mic in(many people have said that this sucks and im considering to buy a mixer even though my low fund) can that be the problem???

...sounds like you're having a synchronization problem with Cubase. I'd try runing Cubase's audio setup routine again. You might have to tweak some stuff. Take the question to the Cubase forum, or at least do some searches.
