Hey guys, . .
Does anyone have a copy of the parts list, or and exploded parts view for the SM58. . .I need to replace the small round piece of foam that sit right on top of the capsule inside the mic. :)

If anyone has a part number for those, . . that would be great!

Shure parts phone #

I am betting you will have to find a substitute, Shure doesn't have a lot of replacement parts available anymore. Hopefully I'm wrong. :)

Thanks for the info Boingo, . . .Yeah, there not easy to track down. I got a call into Shure. But, I haven't heard back form them yet. . .

I would have never thought that part so common as a foam filter for a 58 would be so difficult to track down

As far as I know you got to buy the grille, which has the foam. The part number is Shure RK143G. It usually goes for around $14 to $16.

I don't have any SM58s here at the moment. There might be another piece of foam in there I'm not remembering besides the one in the grille.

There is another piece of foam right on top of the diaphragm in the capsule (unless I am remembering sideways). it sort of looks like two concentric circles/a small bulls eye. I think that is what he is after.

My last experience was good, to a point. I got right through, but the part I needed wasn't available. It's the mini-XLR mounted in a Beta 98 preamp. Seems like the kind of thing there would be a few of lying around in a drawer somewhere. But...now that manufacturing is in Mexico, they come to the US as a whole piece, no parts available. They would send me a replacement preamp for $50+ shipping, though. A new one is $75 at my local store. With the cost of shipping the old one back, the replacement would have been more. The guy was nice about it, anyway.

So I hammered the old one out, got an in-line connector from Markertek, $8, and now it dangles out of the end instead of being mounted. No biggie.

Their service is pretty good, for the most part, except where the realities of global manufacturing enter in.

Yep! Dats da one Bubba, . . :D
Hopefully, Shure will find one for me, or if I'm lucky someone on the forum has something similar that I can use in its place, . .

Good News!

Shure fixed me right up! They had the part in-stock, and its on its way as we speak! Thanks for the number Boingo. :p

If anyone is interested, the part number for that quarter size flat piece of foam that sits right ontop of the capsule cartridge is No. 36A123.

The only very small draw back with that is, . Shure has a $10. minimum order and that part is only a few bucks. So, I purchased a few more of them, just incase, . and also I ordered a few of replacement foam inserts that fit inside the grille of the SM58, . . .which I didn't even know you could replace, . .I always thought you needed to purchase the entire grille!

, . . and yes, .. Shure parts department were extremely helpful, and nice. . .So, there ya go! A happy ending to yet another Shure microphone saga.

Now, hopefully, I didn't ruin the capsule by trying remove that cruddy deteriorated foam on top of the cartridge.
