SM58 Positioning

I know the SM58 is not the best mic for tracking vocals, but what would be the best position to capture vocals? Should the mic be pointing straight up, or should it be on an angle facing the singer? Suggestions.....?

Generally facing the singer, it's not a side address mic. Experiment to see what distance works for the sound you are after, but you'll probably want to be fairly close. How close? I know singers who use 58's live that leave lipstick on them.

For some voices the 58 can be the best mic for tracking, IMO.
