Hey all

Dont think this has been discussed, so here goes

I'm primarily a live audio operator and was wondering what would be a good dynamic mic to go with a 57 on guitars to give that bigger "stereo" sound which is used a lot in recordings. I tried it once live and it worked quite well, since i already have 57's i'm looking for another mic to pair up with it for the task. Also i multitrack record most of my live gigs.

I'm thinking either an audix i-5 or a sennheiser e609, any thoughts

Would also be nice if the mic could be used on other instruments too, live or in the studio

What I use for Micing Guitar Cabs is a Condenser mic which might actually sound very good with a SM 57 for Stereo recording....

The SM57 has a Muddy low end and a not very detailed sound but does sound very good especially with heavy distorted guitar were a SDC will have a Very Detailed and Crisp sound through the whole Audio frequency range which should ballance out the Muddyness of the SM57....

This way you could Pan the Mics more to the 57 for the heavy rythym parts and pan to the condenser for leads....

Just a Thought...

beyer m201 & electrovoice PL88 & 95s are common got to's for me

I usually use a Sennheiser e609S instead of a 57 - so you could use them both. The 609 is reasonably priced as well. I slapped that bad boy in front of my Musicman 2x10 HD - and holy shit - sounded great.

I use an e609s live. In the studio I use an i5 and an e609s blended not panned.
