I know the SM57 is the be-all end all for most applications, but in an effort to expand my mic palette a bit...when shopping for two new mics I chose to go with the Beta57A -

a. I'm hoping to get a better overall response...
b. I'm hoping for a slightly higher end, esp. on my guitar amp micing
c. I didn't really have any hypercardorid (sp?) mics except for my MC 012's with interchangble heads

Anyone have a preference for one over the other...anyone really love the SM57 and HATE the 57A? I'm testing them out tomorrow but I haven't opened one, so I can still return it.

It looked a lot like the Beta 56A (one of my uses for this mic will be toms) -, except bigger...probably the same mic but with a shorter body.

Bruce did a mic shoot-out of those two mics (and others) recording a guitar cab, so you can go hear which one you like better.

(I hope his soundclips are still up)

I think they should still take it back whether you take it out of the box or not, cause how else are you supposed to know if you like it or not?

The Beta 57 is a bit brighter in the highs and mids than the 57, but that's about it.

OldGrover hosted those clips for me, they should still be up at the post you mentioned.

Supposedly the Beta has a thinner diapragm and has a bit more definition. I like it better than the sm57.

I like it better in general on everything, including vocals.

Nice monkey but...

Frank this is off topic but do you use that x-tra large avatar on purpose. I think it may take up a lot of space on the site server.
