SM57 question

Just bought my first SM57, brand new. I tried to unscrew the element cover (top of the mike), but it just turns freely (it's not threaded).

Is this normal for this mike?

Yes it is nornal...if you had a 58...then Id take it back.

REO Speedwagon practiced at a house just down the street from me before they became famous, driving the neighborhood nuts. (Cheap Trick was from Rockford, IL, way up north near the Wisconsin border).
