I've got an old SM57 that has seen a lot of action over the years. It works fine. I plug it in and it captures sound, exactly as a mic should.

The cone has a couple of dings and dents. If I use the mic in the studio, can that affect the sound quality? I've always been curious about this, so I thought I might as well ask.

Also, does anyone know what a Shure SM57 comes with new? Mic, clip, bag... is that it?

all the good 57s have a few scars. you can record, play live, and even slug the 'more cowbell' guy in the skull with it, and it'll work just the same.

huzzah.

I think the 57 comes with a box, a vinyl bag and a stand-clip and a paper insert with the specs...warranty card.

Does the cone every really matter on a dynamic mic? I've used SM58 mics that are almost triangular from getting dropped :) They always work, but would the sound every bounce off in a weird way and decrease the sound quality?
