Hey, I am gonna get a SM57 soon for micing a guitar amp, but I wanna ask - is this mic suitable for vocals for band practise just in my room plugged into a small PA system, or is there something terribly wrong or something?

I'm pretty certain it will be alright, but I just wanted to know if there will be any problems.

OK thanks,

Chris

Itll be fine, seeing as people usually use 58's anyways, and theyre supposed to be the same mic with a different grill.

Absolutely. A 57 will work fine for that. A 57 is good enough to record with on certain voices.

LOTSA GUYS USE 'EM FOR LIVE VOX (sorry for yelling, just noticed caps lock)

In the recent issue of tapeop they have an article that gives instructions on how to remove the transformer from the 57 and improve the sound. Some people say that it makes it sound more like a SM7.

I've been known to rock a 57 up in live settings. It's all good.

As long as you don't use black-colred cable, everything should be fine. Only use green-colred cable with a 57 while plugged in to a PA. Can't stress that enough. If you use black, you'll most likely fry the motherboard on the PA.

I love dry humor but I really must point out that you're kidding because 3 noobs probably soiled themelves after reading that.

Anybody boil their 57's yet? I heard that Seattle tap water brings out a +2dB rise at 4k and East Bay MUDD brings out a +2dB rise 6k.

Dont use Perrier. Now my mic sounds like it has a twist of lemon to it.

Robert Plant and many others used the 57 as a vocal mic back in the day(live ofcoarse).

actually Robert Plant also had some tracks make it onto vinyl with a 57!!!

Thank God I've only got B.L.U.E. Kiwi quad cables and they're all green! I could've fried my motherboard, leaving my computer with a bunch of orphan boards! Thanks for the timely tip, C7.-Richie

If you're lucky the daddyboard will show up and you can have em make little boards which you can sell for big $$...

I've got the cranberry cable. Will a 57 work with that or do I have to go out and by a green one?
