OK.
I KNOW how cheap they are........

but has anyone heard these yet???

Basically........I need more mic pres, cant afford too much and am trying to maximise bang for buck......pretty much like most of the people around here.

Right now I have a Tube MP and DBX mini pre and a Berry 802 mini-mixer.

I am looking to improve my front end and want to be flexible.

I usually record 1 or two tracks at a time by myself but want to be able to maybe throw up 3 or 4 mics on a drum kit and mic a couple of amps and MAYBE a vocal.

I am slowly building my mic closet and now trying to bring up the next link down the chain......

......and I realize you get what you pay for but considering the tidal wave of cheap chinese mics.......some of which are actually good...............for $200 bucks for that new-fangled PR8MKII 8 channel pre.....would I be wasting my time??

-mike

.......oh and what about these new Yamaha MG series mixers???
How are the pres on these???

I got it. (the first model, not the MKII)

The sound is muddy. One of the pre amps didn't work from day one. I don't use it for anything except drums because it is so muddy. In fact, toms and kick only.

That said - for $200 (I actually paid $250 at the time) you can record drums. I'm happy with my purchase. But I'm also looking forward to upgrading.

I have owned the PR8, and agree with fprod south. The pre's are also noisy once you increase the gain. The actual construction was flimsy on the unit I had. Some of the XLR connections were not mounted very well.
Another option could be a pair of Audio Buddies, giving you 4 pre channels which will be more usable.
