SM 57 question

This is probably a dumb question but why does the top of the SM 57 spin around. Does it sound or pick up different in various positions?

there was a thread like this before.. where people said 'oh yeah 5375 spins will blah blah blah' as a joke.. and umm

basically. it just does. it doesnt do anything.
 
You'll notice that if you drop it straight on its head, it no longer rotates.

If you even rent 57's, that's the first thing they check when you bring it back. If it doesn't rotate, it's probably been abused.

I know that doesn't clear up the "why" - But at least you now know of one good use for it.
