I finally installed Windows XP on my system (dual boot w/Win98).

I'm running VST 5.2 on both OS's and the MIDI timing is *much* worse on XP.

My soundcard is Layla 20.

Is this a known issue/is there a fix?

Hi there,

this is "normal". You need a wdm compatible driver for your midi device. If there is none available, u can throw your beloved midi interface to the dustbin. Sorry to say, but xp is horrible.
I´m in the same situation, I wanna keep my 8 channel motu interface they don´t provide nopthing but crap drivers for w2k and xp and that means I have no choice but using w98 till the spiders in my studio will drop dead. What the heck w98 is cool and stable and your solution is mine, 2 partitions are a good work-around
Hav fun

Yo Willey -

I tried the tweaks at www.musicxp.net and it made a significant improvement in my situation.

Have you seen this page?

I don't know if it will help your situation if you don't have the wdm driver,

In my case, I had the wdm driver for Layla20, but the MIDI timing still sucked - until I tried the tweaks on the above mentioned site. I honestly don't know which one did the trick, but the timing is actually acceptable now.
