Slack Help!

COMPUTER crashed

Here is the pop up box I get when I try to open windows:

Explorer: Illegal operation
Invalid page fault in
Module shell32.dll

None of my icons will even show. I can however get into regedit and msconfig.
What can I do besides reinstall windows 98?!!
 
No, even in safe mode the same damn illegal operation window pops up. Explorer can't load properly. I fiddled around with msconfig and did a selective startup only loading the necessary files to run windows (unchecked real player, aim, and all those other resource hogs.) No luck though. The only other thing I can think of is going into the registry but I really only know enough to potentially fuck up my computer.
 
has this system been reliable in the past? have you installed any new software/drivers? ....just curious.

P.S. Why aren't you selling out and making tons of money in consulting?

The system has been reliable in the past. But the drivers for my dsl modem have been causing me problems from time to time. Recently reinstalled cubase.
