Rzzzzz!
I just bought an SKB rack case. It comes with screws, but these screws don't seem standard to me.

My other rack uses Raxxus hardware. These SKB screws have a much wider thread.

I've tried searching for SKB screws on the internet and haven't found anything. If I needed replacements where could I order them? There's nothing on SKB's website.

???
They should be compatible. Rack screws are standardized at this point. It would be bad business to make racks that used a different size.

In any case, search for "rack screws" or go to skb's site, and e-mail customer service if you need parts. They have always been speedy for me.

That's weird, I use Raxxess screws. The newer X-Racks (normal depth - 19" I think) use standard rack screws. Even the other SKB cases that use that clip on things to put screws on work with standard rack screws too.

I had no problems. I'm sure SKB will sell replacement screws, you might have to call them up if it's not listed.

This case is one of those DJ slant top (8 up 4 down) cases.

This thing dosen't even have metal rails, just holes in the molded plastic.

The screws are really stubby things that fit in these holes just fine.

I tried putting in Raxxus screws first and they didn't fit at all. That's when I opened the included baggie and used the packed in screws.

I don't want to have to go crawling to SKB for screws. Who knows what they gouge you for?

As it is, I need at least four longer screws than what came with this thing. I'm installing a Roland MKS-70 through the 4 space part and it's just a little to shallow to accomodate this thing. Only by about a quarter of an inch. I started another thread about that in the Racks forum.

SKB is pretty reasonable. They just sent me latches for free for some cases that are about ten years old. Send an e-mail.

If there is no steel, the threads need to be bigger, that kind of makes sense. Go to a hardware store and get some longer ones, match up the threads.

Thanks, planning on a visit to Home Depot today. If you get a chance, could you look at my "Shims Spacers" thread? I'm thinking about maybe cutting some wood to fit or using some six sided dice or something.

The SKB racks use these little metal clips that attach to the wider holes, and provide the threading for standard rack screws... sounds like they didn't give you the clips when you got the SKB...

It's a DJ case that does not use standard rackscrews on the top rack. It has plastic rails, which means the screws need to be different so they don't strip the plastic threads.

The holes don't even go through on the SKB case. They're like molded in anchors that taper to a closed point.

I went to Home Depot to get longer versions and the closes I could get were sheet metal 10 screws.

They're working fine.

Any type of screw has a width and thread number, the type of head varies.
You should be able to take the screw to any well stocked hardware store and get something that will work just as well for far less.
Racks and the hardware for them are unbelievable ripoffs.
