so i just got some SIT bass strings because I wanted to give them a try..i found that my ernie balls on my G&L really wore out fast from the gigs (sweat and whatnot i presume) so i decided to try SIT rock brights on there. now, with the ernies, they were the same gauge..medium, 50-105...and the D string fit under the string tree fine and never came out.
with the SIT ones, for some reason the D will NOT stay under the string tree! there's no grooves on the G&L one to hold it in place, so as you tune it up, it just slips right out. needless to say, i can't keep the D under it, but the G is there and it's fine....also used SIT power wounds, same gauge, on my schecter with a string tree, and i think that one has little grooves, so the D fits fine under it.
what the hell does the string tree even do? i took one off my strat so i could get that annoying noise by hitting the strings up above the nut (ala tom morello) and never noticed a difference..
only thing is that it looks stupid not being under the string tree haha..are there any advantages to actually putting strings under this thing or no?
