SIR and Sonar problem

kgirl72 - I don't know if a SIR without an impulse loaded takes less cpu resources (cheaper in terms of resource usage) than a SIR that has an impulse loaded and is putting out that great sound ! I'm guessing that it takes less cpu but I forget.

Anyway I'm going to try it out this weekend and see if Sonar3 will let me put SIR up on the auxes or if I still need some kind of pre-aux delay compensation (guessing yes)...

good convolving !

PS Voxengo.com has some real good plugs and a deconvolver (haven't tried that yet) whenever I get ready to make my own impulses. Something like "tile-bath at kylen house 2003" - something I can keep forever even after I move...

Okay, I think I see what you're saying...you would put an empty sir on the other tracks, in order to slide them all?

Yes, the slider might be a little cheaper, but you could also apply the effect and take the load off the cpu, I suppose. If you're only applying the slide to the empty SIR tracks, then, you can leave the slide as a real time effect in the convoluted SIR track, in order to adjust if desired, right?

How is it that in cool edit pro the main A doesn't affect mixdown? I mean, in Sonar, it doesn't have to, if you deselect it as an option. What does it affect, if not the entire mix? And why would you not want it to affect the entire mix, if you're putting it in the A main? Does each track have an A main switch on it somehow? I'm probably dense for not understanding all this instantly.

Do you use any sort of auxiliary send or buss for your tracks in Cool Edit Pro? or have you answered this already...better go check. There's been a lot said (a lot of it by me!) :p

But, you do have to put it on the tracks that DON'T have SIR on them.
Why's that? Can't you just slide the SIR tracks forward?

Yes, of course...but, this sample slide dx plugin will let you specify the exact number of samples to move it over. Can you specify exactly 16380 samples in Sonar to slide a track over? With the slide function?

Anyway, guys, I am going out of town, but don't think I'm NOT taking my laptop. For sho' I am. So, don't let this die...let's all master SIR and kick Sonar's ass to find out if it can ever, in fact, work properly in the aux buss.

thanks,
Kirstin

The slide function will do this. :) No problem.

I'm a little behind the game now - I lost my P4 heatsink fan and was in thermal overload most of the weekend (the computer shuts itself off !). The good new is I got a great new heatsink fan and upgraded the power supplay while I was in there !

I always think of upgrading audio cards, memory, adding disk - but I just now thought of beefing up the power from the stock 300watt ps to a 480watt (I guess you never want to run out of headroom in a power supply - right when all the little logic gates want to say 'yes' - but the power supply says 'maybe' ) :

Fan (92mm - old one was 70mm):

Power Supply Antec Truepower 480:

...whew...
OK now back to SIR. Yes I just rebalanced an old analog tape mix and ran it thru SIR using the Lexicon PCM91 'Air' preset as a track insert and on a different pass used the BusA sub-master in Sonar3. I'll be doing some remixing soon and will tackle the famous AUX buss scenario !
