I'm having the same problem with two different 'cheapo' studio tools i use. My SBLive! card, which i use for soundfonts only, has a single stereo out - and when i run a line out, then y-cable into two inputs on my mackie - the pan in my sequencing software doesn't work right for midi stuff. the sound gets lower when i pan to the right (on the software mixer console), louder when i pan to the left. it's not a true pan. i've tried switching cables, reversing, everything, but it's the same deal. Now - the same thing also happens with my Yamaha DJX synth/keyboard. I line out (stereo plug) from the single line-out, then y-cable into two channels - i get the same thing when i adjust the pan on the keyboard - lower then louder. When i plug my headphones into the same out - i get beautifully panned effects, everything works great. What gives? Am i doing something wrong? My stereo out y-cables into two mono plugs. Isn't that the way to do it? My guitar effects unit, with seperate right and left outs works great. Is this just the way the single line outs on these cheaper units work? Why do the headphones work so great in the same headphone/line-out? Is there any way to solve this problem?
