Suck 'em and see!
I have a small bedroom studio and I'd like to upgrade from my SM58 for vocals. I'm on a very tight budget and have been looking at the Studio Projects B series.

I want to record vocals mainly, but I may want to record acoustic guitar at a later date.

B3 or B1?

The B1 is getting sold in a package deal at my local store right now with shock mount, popper stopper and the SP pre amp for £149.99. The B3 is £117.99 plus £24.99 for the shock mount £14.99 for the pop filter and £99 for the SP pre amp.

Single or multi patern, do I really need the multi for just recording vocals? Or is there an actual difference in the sound and quality of these two mics?

If you've tried both I'd like to hear from you. I've used the search feature and done all the research I can but I could use some hands on opinions please.

thanks,

Alec.

LemonTree, if you're starting out, and especially if you don't have some acoustical treatment, the B1 will be more than enough. The omni patten on th B3 can sound good on acoustic, but it will also pick up the sound of your room more.

The B1's cardioid pattern sounds excellent on acoustic.

If you're in the Scotland, make sure and also check out Red5 Audio mics. The RV8 especially. Great mic.
