You shouldn't try fixing such a thing in the mixing stage. You gotta sort this thing out at recording stage. But since you're already at the mixing: I would put a compressor on it. ALOT of compression. Make sure everything in it comes out pretty well. Stomach, liver, make sure it's got some balls too...
