since I have had problems and I suck, can someone briefly go through this please?

So I plug my recorder into my line in on the soundcard. I open up CEP and then what?

I know I have to save the session and then individual tracks, but how exactly.

And this time I am just putting in my stereo tracks, so can I choose to record in stereo instead of mono if I was 'tracking'.

What type of file do I save as, and should I choose 16 bit or what?

I have played to some extent, but there are so many different ways to do it, I would like to know the 'standard way'. I hope I don't look like a fool. Thanks so much. Greg.

Hi Greg. There's no standard way. There are different ways. You don't look any more a fool than the rest of us, Greggie baby. Trust me on this one.

Then you set up Cool to deal with input and output. After that, you're set to start recording.

There are two ways - the easy way and the more time-consuming way. The time-consuming way is better.

When you've done tracking, you can click on 'Save Session' and Cool will save everything for you (although you might get some tracks with strange names). Alternately, you can save each track, one at a time, by taking it into edit view and using the 'Save As' command to save that track to whatever folder you've created to save the song in (you *have* created a folder for each song you want to save, right?). The second approach gives you way more control, and fewer headaches later on when you start replacing existing tracks with tracks that are better.

That's right.

I'd go for WAV files if I didn't have special project to do. Choose the highest resolution your soundcard is capable of. 16-bit is okay, but 24 bit is better. Cool does this 32-bit floating point thing. Go for that one if your soundcard will support it.

Just how do I go about 'setting cool for imput/output'?

I have a yamaha MD8 recorder that I will use to mix and stuff. From there I will run from the stereo out on my recorder into the soundcard. Don't ask what the soundcard is and stuff cause i don't have a clue. I am not too familiar with all this stuff so that's why I am trying to get help. I know stuff about recording in general, but programs are crazy stuff....yet necessary in my point of view. I'd appreciate your imput as well as Dobro's so that I can get even a better understanding of it all.



????---How do I link the 'session' to the tracks? How do you remove tracks from sessions and vise versa.

What does one normally do while 'mastering' a record such as I will be doing? What sort of compression and stuff do you do to it with this program?





Lastly, Dobro, you said "after you done tracking"..... Before, I put on one track, saved it, closed CEP, opened it, and started over.....just so that I wouldn't save any wrong stuff. Then I opened the tracks up in Cubase and mixed in there. Is it possible that CEP will save 2 or more tracks 'together'? Does this mean that I can put it all together in CEP and then save? Thanks..
