I have a Sound Blaster® Audigy™ HD on my laptop and i cannot record/playback at the same time. I use the line in on the sound card and my headphones are connected to the headphone jack on the card. I did actually get playback once but it was delayed by about 3 seconds.

Ok i figured it out. The card sucks the cards drivers suck. It does not have asio drivers and from what i read i need to have them for reasonable simultaneous rec/playback.

www.asio4all.com, might not fix it entirely but it should help.

Also, you can get "0-latency" monitoring by using direct monitoring from the sound card. You won't hear any effects that might be on the track, but you can hear yourself without noticeable delay.

You do this by un-muting "Line-In" on your sound card's mixer playback settings, and not by monitoring through your recording software.

Getting a good recording sound card with good drivers (ie: Audiophile 24/96) or something like that, makes things a lot easier though. :)

The M-Audio Audiophile is really nice for the price... if you like rice and have pet mice and roll dice and like crushed ice...

Oops, sorry. Rhyming Tourette's.

But yeah, the Audiophile is good, and cheap.

Fortunately there is a USB Audiophile, although whether that's what they were referring to is an open question.

You Sir, have a valid point, forgot about the USB, I guess its because I dont use USB in my set-up, well for my Cubase dongle only...

Nope, I just skimmed over the original post and that detail just didn't register. :)
