Curious if there is a simple method for setting volume of songs so that in the mixdown each song is on an even keel. That is, the listener is not turning one song up, the next down, etc;

I realize care of course in referring to past songs and trying to have near setups would help, but I'm just wondering if there is a way to see overall volume output and make an adjustment. Thanks.... (having fun, wrote a new folk song last night, and boy can you burn hours easily. Began in the morning, and finished at about 2am)......

I would recommend using a wave editor to accomplish this - e.g., Wavelab or Sound Forge.

Take your finished songs and use a limiter such as Waves L1 or Sound Forge Wave Hammer on them. Of course, you'll have to play with the settings for each song. The Global Analysis tool within Wavelab is pretty good for checking RMS volume, which seems to me to equate fairly well to listening levels.

Genrally, however, equalizing volume levels across songs is part of the mastering process. If you plan to have your songs professionally mastered, I wouldn't worry about it at this time.
