simple pro tools question

Ok, don't mean to sound stupid, but will protools hardware only work with protools software? In other words, will the 002 system work with Logic (or some other program) so that you can record more than just 32 tracks? If not, can you/ how do you get more than 32 tracks?
I currently work with MOTU stuff and DP3 and have done very limited work with anything protools. I've been pretty pleased with my set-up, but I'm kinda inquiring for a friend and want to load him down with as much accurate info as I can.

Darn it! I had another question.

I also was wondering if there are aux sends or something on the 002 so that a full band or small choir can monitor themselves and other members while listening to previously laid tracks.

Yes, it works with other software. The 001, 002, 002R, and (I think) Mbox all have ASIO drivers.
No, you can't get more than 32 tracks in Pro Tools LE.
Yes, it has aux busses and sends. The Pro Tools mixer works like any other mixer. I think there are 32 aux busses, and each channel strip has 5 aux sends. However, other software may differ.

I own the 001, and I like it a lot. I would like the 002 a lot more. That thing has possibly the best low-end electronic fader implementation I've seen. Extremely smooth.

I'm lookin' into a 002. Wondering if I need to also get a mic pre or are the ones that come with the 002 good.

If the answer is yes, I should get a mic pre. What would you guys suggest? I'm looking for a warm sound.

Everyone's looking for a warm sound... that's a lot more a result of mic choice, mic placement, and source than anything else. The preamps on the 001 are really good, and I assume the 002 preamps are better. They're the same as the pres on the Digi OctoPre, which has gotten pretty good reviews.
