My needs are pretty simple, I want to record a few videos for youtube on my guitar amp. I have the Logitech Orb cam which makes great video but the audio from my amp gets distorted.

I have a Mackie ProFX12 board that's new, and I tried to change the default Mic for the cam from the usb one in the camera to my board input to the computer (via USB), but it's not a selectable option.

I can record using the "Tracktion" software that came with the board (in Windows), but it's a PITA. I tried in Linux (multiple programs) but nothing really works right.

I have a shure SM57 and SM58 going to the board (audio and my amp), and then the board is connected via USB to my HP quad-core PC with 8GB Ram and 2 750GB drives. One drive for Windows 7, one drive for Ubuntu Linux 9.10.

My question is - even though the Mackie has the USB out, am I in need of a decent sound card with extended features, or some type of "M" box thingie for optimal recording?

Best ideas for recording guitar, and for recording WITH video - would be awesome!
