Silentj - Off the Hook

I really like this song.. a real toe-tapper with a feel-good melody.

As for the mix, I wonder if the headphones are making things difficult for you. A few things:

- sounds like you've got a bit of a nasty build up at the low end which is really making things muddy. Probably simple enough to fix with some EQ
- did you apply any compression on the master bus? I think I can detect pumping on the overall mix whenever the kick drum hits. I also would have liked to hear a punchier kick. Maybe try a slight boost around 2k-ish?
- vocals seem a bit buried at times, and could afford to be a few notches higher in the mix

Other than that, I reiterate, I really like the song. Good work dude.

@mattdee1...After posting this, I burned a CD and went out to the car...I hear everything you are saying. This is definately a fall down because of the headphones. Unfortunately, the majority of my time is spent late at night on this, so I can't use monitors.

I try to get the mix mostly there, and then clean it up with monitors when the wife and kids are out. LOL. Hopefully this weekend.

Thanks for the feedback.

Cool...nice job man!

Very fun and catchy. Love the vocals - especially on the chorus...they have a nice big sound and I really like the harmonies :D. I like the guitar sounds throughout. I am listening on a laptop, so I'm trying to avoid mixing stuff for now, but...

From what I'm hearing, I would prefer the guitars taken down a bit during the chorus in relation to the vocals. The relationship between the two volume-wise works better during the verses for me anyway. The drums sound a little dark and boxy overall, but again, 2-inch speakers could be to blame :o:).

Really liked the tune!

I like the song. The mix is still lacking definition as far as the drums are concerned. Don't give up. I'd like to hear this when your done with the final mix.
