signal when I don't want signal

Hello,

I don't know where this computer question should go so I'm trying here.

I still hear audio plugging/unplugging instruments even though I've muted all my soundcards ins and outs.

Why do I still get the pops of equipment being turned on an off?

The pops probably comes through your AC line. If you connect all your gears (PC, amps, soundsystems) into single AC line, then try to get 'em separated. You know, sometimes turning on a light causing noticable pops in your sondsystem. You may also want to check your studio's AC line, they may need proper ground installed.

Thanks for your response but I still don't get how anything is coming through the line if I have "analog in" muted as well as monitor muted.

If you are using the Windows mixer applet, it's a very common source of confusion, because on first glance it looks like input and output devices are shown on the same window -- but in actuality the inputs into the recording device are on a separate page. Enabling the Line In setting on the first page means that it anything coming in the Line In will be routed straight to the outputs -- input monitoring, in other words. You have to select Properties from the Options menu, then select Recording in the Adjust Volume For... section before you see the controls for what gets piped in to the WAV recording device.

Sorry, I forgot to ask you, I was assuming you hear the pops on your speaker monitor only. You know, most of the times if we do turn on/off any electric devices pluged in same AC line will causes a pops on your speaker monitor. Did you hear that pops in your recording or in your speaker monitor only ? and does it (the pops) appear in the wave block ? What's your sound card anyway ?

AlChuck...I think you are on to something but excuse my ignorance but what is the Windows mixer applet? The only audio controls I can find are my soundcard. I checked in the control panel/sound audio. In which window do I go to options/properties?


James...no it's not a recording thing. I just want to try to avoid audio signal spikes through my system whenever I'm rummaging around and switching instruments/ hardware.

LynxOne 24bit soundcard.

It's there, right hand side, taskbar, next to your Windows clock... you should see small speaker icon...

I assume you route your instrument to Sound card's Line In, and route the Sound sard's Line Out to sound system, right ? Actually, if you mute the master output of the card, you should hear nothing... or do I miss your routing scheme ?

Yes I got your PM...thanks.

Ok that speaker icon is what I thought you were refering too. It used to be there but no more. My onboard sound is disabled and my soundcard should be doing everything, thats why this is weird.

I can mute in's and out's and my monitor button in my soundcard's mixer and I can still get these audio spikes.....?
