I have been tring to figure this out for awile.
I have a vocal track that I only want to have delay on the last word of a line. With out using automation how can this be done? What delay and compressor plug-ins do I need to use?

Automation is your best bet in this case.

Create a stereo bus with a delay plugin of your choice / Add a Send on the vocal track to the Delay bus / Create an Automation envelope for the delay gain and keep it all the way down until the the last word of each line.

Do you have a specific reason for wanting to do it without automation?

Instead of side-chaining it, why don't you just make a duplicate of the complete vocal track, then erase everything but the words you want delay on from the duplicate track.I don't know Sonar, but I'm sure it's not much different than most DAW's.

Automating what you want couldn't be easier in Sonar.

Just set the delay up the way you want it and stick an envelope on the Send level from the vocal track (or buss). Start with it at -INF and raise it to the level required,
