Does anyone know anything about the Shure SX-50 mic? I bought one used about 12 years ago. When I bought it the salesman told me it was basically a SM58. It has been a wonderful mic that does a great job on many things. I was just curious as to the history of the mic. I searched Google and did not come up with anything.

Peace,

Nope, SX-50 omni dynamic mic it is. I have searched and the only thing that I can find is a fellow named Rick Harper making reference to recording with one.

The mic looks just like an SM58 and has a on/off switch. I never gave it much thought until I started searching and could not find any info on it. Now I am curious. I emailed Shure as well. It did not show up on their discontinued list.

Peace,

I'm the Rick Harper feller. I've been looking for specs on this mic for a long time. I got it used from a music store in lauderdale. I knew it was close to a 58, now I know. I've looked over an hour tonight and all these old reviews of mine keep coming up! These reviews are at least nine years old, now. It is a very good all 'round mic. I prefer it to a 57 for mic'ing gtr amps tho' both mics are quite similar, save for the switch. The SX-50 is probably better for bass, though. I used it for almost everything for years when I was stuck to a Tascam 424 4 track. Glad this mystery is over.
