I know that many here who record acoustic guitars like the SM81. Does anyone have experience with the KSM137 mics on acoustic guitar recordings or even in general?

I plan on getting a matched pair of SDC mics for stero recording on mainly acoustics. Trying to make up my mind. Also, I noticed the KSM137 & KSM141 are sold in matched pairs, but I can't find anyone selling the SM81 as a matched pair. Is that odd or just me? Any preferred dealers to buy from with best prices?

Any input or suggestions is appreciated. Thanks...

The sm81's are pretty good mics. They kind of have a natural sound that does not really help you or hurt you. The KSM series of mics is a much more flattering sound. 9 out of 10 times both I and my clients would prefer the added dimension and sound of the KSM series of mics.

There are also plenty of other sd mics that have a great sound in a similar price range. Both the Josephson and Pelusos come to mind for me. For a little bit more you can also look into Geffel and AKG 451's.

SM81's are not sold in matched pairs. They are so close in response that matching is not needed.

I have an sm81 and have used the KSM 109 and 141. They are all good mics. Most people seem to prefer the ksm's. I prefer the 81's. But either will do you well.
