Hello everyone, I was just wondering about these to mics and how they compare with sound and quality. I have a Baritone vocal and tend to be a little sssssss'sh's at times. Out of the 2 which would you folks suggest. I really like the dynamic microphones over the condensers. I have had good experiences with an SM5 which are now antiques and are older than the SM7. Still I would like to hear a little from those who have used the SM7 and Heil mics. Thank you in advance!

I agree with his assessment in that other thread... in all I would say the SM7 is more versatile for what that is worth and you'll likely get more use out of it... but to address your specific need, the Heil might be slightly better.... or an RE20 for that matter.

Thanks for the info!

I did a search within the past few days on the PR-40 and read where you owned one. I was hoping you would comment. In the test that was done in the other thread I really feel the PR-40 was way better sounding than the other 3 mics. I may give it a go. Thanks Kidvybes! I have used the RE- in the past and was not to impressed with it compared to my uncles SM5 the PR-40 to me sounds way better.

Kidvybes.......where is the cheapest place to purchase the the PR-40 $325 is the cheapest on ebay new?

go to guitar center and see if they can hook you up for cheaper. Tell them straight up how much money you have to spend... say like 275, and they will probably make it happen for you. I think I read somewhere that Tool used the PR-40 for almost everything on the album including vocals... I could be wrong so don't quote me, but that's what I understood.

Don't forget to consider the Sennheiser MD421.

How does the MD421 compare to the heil and the Shure?

Honestly I could not tell you as I have never used those two mic's. I am sure that they are close enough to be in the same ballpark. The reason for my post was that I did a mini-mic shootout and two of the mics I used were the MD421 and an RE-27. The guy I recorded has a bass/ low-baritone voice and the MD421 sounded the BEST for his vocal in our test.
