I called my local store looking for a Sm58 but they said they choose to carry the OM2 cause it has the same basic sound and dynamics but even better at not picking up unwanted peripheral noise. Should I buy the OM2 if I can get it for a better deal?? Thanks for the help. BJ

It's double edged sword.
The SM58 will have a more forgiving (wider) cardiod pattern for a
singer with less "mike" experience.

There are some excellent used dynamic microphones like the
Beyer Soundstar MKII that cost less and are generally superior
to either of the ones you mentioned BTW.

i own both mics, and i would definately reach for a 58 first in most situations. i find a 58 is easier to eq, i find there is alot of proximity effect that is hard to remove on an OM2. not saying that the OM2 is bad, cause it does sound good on some voices.
