Back to the subject of the swiveling head: All I know is it's a weird feature that had me puzzled and worried for a bit. But I'm happy to know that my meddling nature, which caused me to fiddle with the head - doing who knows what to the internal wiring - did not get me into trouble this time and ruin a finely (and, as it turns out, "strangely") crafted tool. Thanks, Shure for keeping us all on our toes...And thanks to everyone else who posted for attempting to address this confounding question.
