I am somewhat of a novice, so I may be way off the mark with this question.

Basically I am looking to record vocals and electric guitar (via an amp, not DI) and am wondering which mics to purchase.

I have been doing some research and I am quite happy with what people have to say about the SM57 and the M3.

I am trying to be as cost efficient as possible, so the way I see it I have two options, either I buy both of these mics and use the M3 for vocals and the SM57 for guitar
OR
I buy just the Rode M3 and use it for both vocals and guitar (the option I am more attracted to).

Do people think that there is a noticeable quality difference between the M3 and SM57 in terms of recording guitar, thus making it foolish to try and get both jobs done with the M3? or is the quality difference between them negligible (relative to bedroom recording) enough to enable me to just buy the M3?

I would buy both, however why the M3 for vocals? A NT1 would probably be a better choice.

A SM57 will always give a good guitar sound and if you want to experiment try using both mics at the same time, Actually a NT1 and SM57 together sounds great on guitar.

NT1 - NT1 - NT1 - NT1 - NT1. ..... So you know my vote as well. Oh yeah and the 57 too!
