Shure SM56 ????

Talking to the guy at the Sound-room while ordering my matched pair of MC012's, and he said the Shure SM56 was a good mic for snare drums.

Now, I may be ignorant here, but I've never heard of an SM56. (of course, I know the SM57, but that's neither here or now) - He thought they might be discontinued. Anyone ever use one or hear of one?

I came across two of these, thanks for the info.

Mine are actually labeled "SM57", so I was a bit confused. Must have been a transition 56 --> 57 model.

Any idea what the need for the impedance switch was? Was there/is there preamps that would rather see the "L" setting of 38 ohms?
