Shure BG 5.1?

I've got a Shure BG 5.1 that I was thinking about tying to recording with to test it out. Does this mic work good for vocals etc. What do you think about the mic over all.

Thanks

I think I have one of these too, although I don't really use it much. But, when I first started my attempts at recording (which wasn't all that long ago) it was the only thing I had. It will work fine. I believe it is meant more for recording, or at least the literature would lead one to believe so. It's discontinued now, but seriously, it will be a decent starting mic to record with. Then, I got a Beta 87 and that was okay too. But, I didn't feel that I was using the level of mic I wanted (for recording). I'm sure that Beta 87 will come in handy when and if I ever get up on stage again. When I got my large diaphragm condenser, I was almost unprepared for the difference, while recording. Although, I also upgraded pretty much everything else I had.

But, I would never say the mic is fabulous. I think it works well if you're just trying to get some stuff down. I love my large diaphragm condenser for my vocals now. But, I used this mic too, and it really helped me to get my hands dirty, which is what we all need to do in the beginning.

I would be seriously surprised if a lot of the people on this board also had any experience with the mic. I feel like I was the only person alive who had one, until I read this. Furthermore, I don't know what I'm even really doing, except learning as I go, so you won't get much more useful info from me other than, it'll do fine, but you won't want to sell any cds with it. I don't know how to really say much else about it. I still have the mic, if that means anything to you...over 5 years later.

Have fun!

By the way, I will say also that the reason I bought this mic in the first place was NOT for recording, but because I wanted to use it onstage. The dudes at the audio shop sold it to me, but I have yet to ever be able to use it onstage, because feedback is a huge problem it seems. Or else no one else knows what they're doing either. In practices even, without headphones, this thing just doesn't work with speakers and monitors. You turn it up a tiny bit and it's screaming at you. I don't know if it's too hot, or what causes that. But, in reality, you will have WAY better results recording with this mic. I could be way off here, but it seemed to be this way in my experience.

Maybe someone with some real knowledge would jump in here.

See ya!
