Hi guys I'm looking for a dynamic microphone to gig and record. I'Ve got a baritone voice. Good feedback rejection, good mids, hyper- cardioid. My options are; shure beta58a, sennheiser e945 or audix OM7. Which one is the best in my case?

neumann kms 105 is better than all of them, but probably shure beta 58 out of the ones you listed. Obviously the budget is different for both the mics.

Thanks But isn't it a condenser? Quite worried about picking background noises and feedback. I use a little bit of distortion in my voice too.

See - this is the problem? Microphones and voices are personal. Somebody suggests another alternative, that you don't dismiss on price, but on background noise and feedback - which is nothing to do with it being a condenser. Background noise? Do you mean the ability to reject unwanted sounds, because that depends on the direction they come from. Hyper-cardioids just have different shaped rear lobes, so we have no idea of your circumstances. I personally on my voice prefer the Sennheiser, however, I'm currently using Beta58s, and it's just a few twists on the EQ. I'd suggest that you try all three and get the one that sounds best. I would like to use the Neumann, but keeping in mind how many times the 58s hit the floor, it would be a foolish investment for how we work. You can't pick for others unless you can hear their voice.

it needs phantom power yes, it's a hypercardioid pattern though so it won't pick up as much background noise, and far lower self noise than most, I'd be surprised if you didn't like it.

We're going too far with self-noise - we're talking about a handheld microphone, and used in the almost mandatory lips on basket mode, it's simply not an issue. Sound, and handling noise are my number 1, and response pattern only enters into it when using them on VERY noisy stages, or where monitor levels are pretty potent - and even then, changing from cardioid to hyper means different monitor speaker setups too. I have a suspicion the reason I don't like the Beta 58s we use is because I like a straight ahead monitor, and the B58 likes two side monitors better.

My favourite at the moment for live work are the Line 6 radios - the ability to simulate a number of popular mics is a nice touch, and most people who use them really like the tonal changes - plus you don't need to change the monitor layout because the pattern remains the same.

Thanks guys,

I won't have problems with monitoring because I gig with my laptop and midi controller and use my headphones as monitors. The thing is that I use distortion and need more gain before feedback. Background noise is for home recording. I want a microphone to record and gig. My music sounds good with dynamic ones and my apartment is quite noisy. I've heard that the input level with the Audix is not high and you really need to sing loud which is exactly the opposite of what I do.
