Shure Beta 56 or SM57

I have a chance to get 3 beta 56 mics for around $225.
Do they have any use in a studio or are they best for live use.
Now I am using SM57's on the toms. How do they compare to the beta 56's

I think they'd perform the same.

...haha sorry. I saw a chance to be a smartass and I took it. Seriously though, I think the beta 56's will do better for toms and you can use the sm57 on the snare.

I like the beta 57 much better on snare than a regular 57. The beta 56's would definately sound better on toms though than the sm57's. At least the way I like to record and to listen to toms. I would reccomend keeping a few of the 57's around though

I just got back from GuitarCenter.
I ended up with 4 Beta 56 mics for $217.97. ($54.50 each)

They had them marked $79.99 each and I talked them down.
I feel for the guy that traded them in. He must have got a hundred for all of them.
