If I treat myself to a shure 55sh would I be able to connect it to my ferrograph 631 for recording in other words can I attach a 6.3 jack plug to the lead.

You'd want a transformer adaptor or preamp in between them. Alternatively, you could seek out an old switchable-impedance 55 (set to high impedance).
