Ribbon mics. Just not right in front of the kick. :D

But seriously... a common config is a large diaphragm dynamic for the kick, some small to medium diameter dynamics for other stuff, and small diaphragm condensers for overheads. There are no hard and fast rules, though, and different people do things in different ways.

For example, I've heard of people using everything from LDCs to ribbon mics for overheads. Some people like to do a room mic out in front of the kit. Some folks do their overheads in an X/Y while others do one hanging vertically above the snare and one above the cymbals/hat (depending on kit layout). Some people even use a condenser like the Beta 91 for the kick.

Experiment. See what works for you with your kit and your mics.
