Should I use a damper underneath my subwoofer?

Hi there,

I use an ikey audio m-10sv2 subwoofer along with my Yamaha HS8s to fill out the very bottom end (around 40 hz is what it is set to). It is sitting on a medium thick rug which covers most of the wood floor of my mixing room. I have a good amount of room treatment now so I am starting to do whatever else I can to cut down on resonant frequencies. Would something like this be helpful?

IsoAcoustics ISO-L8R200 Sub - Large, Single Unit | Sweetwater.com

Thanks,

Chris

Decoupling the sub from the floor can never hurt. There are a few ways people do that. I used some monitor isolation pads and that worked well for my sub. No matter how the room is constructed.....or what type of rug is on the floor......for the most part there's almost always some resonance transferred from sub to floor to room and that can affect your perception of a mix's bottom end.

Thanks much. I figured as much but it is always good to get other's feedback on this stuff!
