I have the Shure SM58 right now,and im thinking of getting the Rode NT1. Will this be a big difference? Or should i keep my money?

Well, I've never used the NT-1, but months of reading posts here reveals that it has a reputation as having a boosted high end, perhaps a little harsh for some tastes.

In that price rance, I have the MXL V-67G, and I am borrowing a C-1. I can tell you that either one is a great, great mic for the money. I suspect those who have used the NT-1 and either the C-1 or V-67G will tell you the latter two would be better options.

back in the day (before the v67 and the c1), i had the opportunity a few times to play with a NT1....while it did sound better than my sm57, it didnt sound $100 better......

its a decent enuff mic, but youll do much better with your dollars with a v67 or c1, or maybe even listen to the Studio Projects B1 @$79.......

RUN AWAY from the NT1!!

There are much better mics for the dollar out there. As soon as you start upgrading your mic collection, it will be the first thing you bail!

I had an NT1.
It's an okay mic,a little harsh though.
I'd definatly go with a Studio Projects or Marshall mic now.

Best to you,
Pete

If I stick to the parameters of the question as you phrased it, my best answer is to keep your money.

Frisco has many music dealers, one of which will surely let you audition some mics at least in the store, perhaps even ones we've discussed here. Find out which ones sound good on your voice, or that of whomever or whatever you wish to record, before pulling out your wallet.
