I am a Cubase man. However, I know that the most used sequencers in the pro music bussiness are Logic and Pro Tools. At my school my teacher keeps telling us to widespread capable of software handing, in other words, learn Logic and Pro Tools. I have the option to use these programs at school, but not at home.

I am decent with Cubase, there is not much I don't know how to use in Cubase SX. Should I just hope for a job in which Cubase is an option, or should I take no chances and learn all three (meaning: probably buy and MBox).

In short - yes!

Learn to use as many of the industry standard tools as you can.

If you really want to be valuable in the industry, learn everyhting you can. If you just want to be a better engineer/producer/musician, learn everything you can. If you just want to sit at home and write a few songs and maybe do quickie recordings of them, don't worry about it.

Several years ago Logic was very popular in the studio industry. MOTU's Digital Performer was as well. Nowadays, Logic and DP don't seem to have quite as widespread of a user base. Especially Logic. I think that now you will see more Nuendo rigs than any of the other non Pro Tools applications. Many a studio now have Nuendo running right alongside their Pro Tools HD rigs as more and more producers are starting to really take to Nuendo. So, in your situation, your Cubase knowledge will track directly to those studio's using Nuendo since most of them could just as easily be using CUbase SX instead (they don't use the advanced surround and video options).

You're going to school to be an audio engineer? YES, go learn everything you can. You can't just hope for a Cubase set-up. Plus, employers look for a variety. Since this isn't just a hobby for you, the $500 spent of an MBox will be well worth it in the long run. Buy a couple books as well. Just don't slack, you won't get anywhere.

Alright! Thanks for the imput guys. I'm deffinately thinking about the MBox now. I am in need of some better pre's anyway (behringer, ya know). I think I'll be fine when it comes to Nuendo, but Pro Tools is still far from clear to me.

Yes I am going to school to be an audio engineer. Actually, not just an audio engineer. More of producer kind of education. It involves alot of actual musical teaching aswell.
