Should I go with Vegas

HEll everyone. Well I am new to the whole recording world. I have a few questions

First off I am building a comp from scratch

but anyway I was wondering if vegas is a good program for my needs

I'm a Hip-Hop producer
I currectly use A roland XP80 Keyboard
Mpc 2000
Asr Xpro
Alesis microverb
Zoom SamplePLayer( Yeah I know its cheap but it helps me)
Korg MS200 ( Whuch is on its way)

How does vegas work? Meaning what do I need to make it run?

How do I go from my behringer mixing Board into the comp?

I am going to need at least 8 Tracks to record on, is Vegas good for that?

I use Vegas, mainly cuz I learned it back at version 1.0 (they just released 3.0), and I don't do MIDI stuff (yet). It is easy to use, and very powerful.

Vegas will do most of what you need, but seeing your Roland XP80 on the list, I'd think you'll want some MIDI support?

Sonar (by the Cakewalk peeps) would do the same thing that you'd have to use Vegas and Acid to get...

And how do I hook my mixer into the comp?

Your wife looks a little dark for me, and I think she should do something about that moustache...

Go to Sonic Foundry's Website for full system requirements.

You'll need a soundcard to go from the mixer to the PC. What kind and how much $ depends on your PC's motherboard, what OS you intend to use, and how many tracks you want to be able to record (simultaneously).

Well actually I havent built a comp yet, im in the procees of trying o find out what I should exactley buy. I have a comp now and its a dell with all the goodies, but that comp is for the family mosty my Fiance

Well i am looking to build one for about $1000.00. If possible
Any suggestions what I should equipment I should get comp wise?

I want to record at least 3-4 tracks at once.

What about Cool Edit???

I've used Cool Edit for a couple of years now and it seems to ba a good program for beginners but still gives you a very quality product. It also has Midi capabilities if you end up going that route. The interface may not look like much but it definetly has helped me out. Just recently have I moved to Vegas Audio and am very pleased with it's performance. But like I said Cool Edit is a good program for beginners. For info on it go to Syntrillium

I have a buddy that does hip hop stuff on computer. He swears by cakewalk. I don't know why, but he even told me he triend Nuendo and still liked cakewalk better. I think down the road you'll probably eventually want midi options. Have you checked out Fruity Loops? Thats an awesome program for making beats and stuff. I mostly do metal and a bit of electronica here and there, so my needs are probably a bit different than your may be. But if you could explain the need to record 3-4 tracks at once? If you can work with 2 tracks at once, you can probably save yourself alot of money by getting a soundcard with 2 ins and 2 outs at first, and expanding later.
