Great pics, Dave! I just bought a Presonus Firepod, through Reaper; even though I swore I'd never go digital.

I have a Beatles song on my homepage, stuff I recorded 25-30 yrs. ago on RtR, them tried to mix with 424 Tascam.

Maybe we could record some Beatles together, You've done tons of them! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.:D

Yeah, that's cool.

Someday we should.
Thanx,... & same to you!;)

Hey Dave, ;) or is that ;)
Anyway Merry Christmas and to SR and everyone else! And just say no to Digital, it's that simple. :D

MERRY CHRISTMAS to you too Dave (and your family) and all the guys on the Analog Only forum!:)

BTW, say NO to digital (I mean, for the most part ;) ).:D

Naa, I sincerely hope ARP was joking!:confused::D;)

(PS: If you weren't, Dave, then you know where to send me your house full of analog goodies:D:D)

and all that wishy washy holiday stuff!...........;)

You must mean Whisky Washy... :D

Nice family, by the way… folks would think you and I were related, ‘cept I’m just “Digital ready” (see photo below). ;)

… and nice Roland TR-606. I used to have that and the TB-303 back in ‘84.

Merry, merry and Happy, happy! :)

*Looks at pics of Dave's behemoth gear collection.
*Looks at pic of Dave's family...

Now I know why Dave has to have eight of everything!:cool::D

I have to admit the gear fiend in me finds the tascam dp-02cf pretty sexy. No moving parts, recording 8 tracks to compact flash cards. But still 16 bit, limited routing etc. I wonder if "ultra III" type cards would allow 24 bit 8 tracking?

In any case, here's to new recording frontiers of all types in 2008.

I like Beck's depiction of being "digital ready"!

Here's the literal explanation:

(Post 1): I asked myself, "Should I 'go digital' with a new DP-02/CF, 2488 or MR16HD?"

(Post 2 & 3): Then I answered to myself, "Too late, 'cause I already 'went digital' with the Fostex FD4/FD8, Tascam 564, Yamaha MD8, Tascam Pocketstudio 5 and 788",... (so it's a moot point!)

(Post 4): You may find me in-studio & as happy as can be about being literally up to my a$$ in (more or less) 'vintage' analog gear, including the Roland TR-606 Drumatix. (See above).

(Comment): I agree that units like the DP-02CF are attractive little packages, but for the technical capability it lacks that puts me off the idea of buying one. The A/B-input-to-track architecture is a real deal killer for me, as it is for the likes of the 2488, MR16HD and anything like it, including the 788 which I bought before I knew it's full capabilities (reads: limitations). Likewise for the PS5, with a simple A/B-input-to-track architecture, no front end mixing capability & 2-simul limitation. Could you imagine an M-520 front-end to a Pocketstudio 5? No, me neither. An M-30 front-end to a 788 is a little more plausible, as our esteemed friend sloom has implemented on his own.;)

(Hint): [IMO], a Portastudio should be a fully functional self-contained unit. If you're required to hook an external mixer to the front end of any one of these units to regain a nominal set of input mixing capabilities, it's no longer that. (Or so goes my thinking on the subect!);)

(Followup): Shedshrine's right in assuming why I need 8 of e'thing! (See above).

Thanx
