debating between Tech21 Tri-a.c. and v-amp2. used mainly for direct recording, occasional jamming through a full stereo system or maybe a SS amp.

thoughts? suggestions?

The V-Amp sucks, that's all I know. Someone left one here and I use it as a tuner. That's it.

i would get the PSA-1, but it's too expensive for me at this stage.

same for the PODXT.

i'm going to the music store today to try out the Tri-A.C. but i want to know how it will sound recorded, not in front of an amp or anything.

i tried the v-amp2 with headphones, and thought the distortions weren't that great.

guess i'll just have to buy and try... and then maybe return

OUR opinions are just that...

YOU gotta go DEMO a few units for yourself...and do that in your own studio environment at home or whatever...not just in the store...

I just spent an hour playing with the V-Amp Pro rack in the store.......tried lots of stuff on it....sounded like fizzy/processed SHIT.......my lawnmower gets better TONES :)

A lot of folk prefer the Johnson J-Station over the V-Amp or even the POD. It's only £150.

The Tech21 SansAmp GT2 is $160 so might be worth a thought. I think you can get more sounds than from the TRI-A.C.

Pete.

I'd consider looking into the SansAmp GT2 as well. I guess it's similar to the other, but in my opinion the GT 2 has the best tube sound emulation out of any device. The POD's and V-amps sound like they use too many effects to hide the fact that it doesn't have that great of actual amp sound.

I used the GT2 for a while...it's as 'noisy' as hell, and only has a miniscule variety of tones or FX, compared to the line6 modellers...

It's not even in the same ball game, let alone league...

I disagree 100%!

No comparison

To compare the GT2 to the POD XT is not a fair comparison in my opinion. I think they both sound great for their intended usage.

i tried the POD 2.0 and V-amp2 together

yeah i wasn't too impressed with the distortion on the V-amp2 in the store through headphones. it just sounded kind of flat. and it's supposed to sound best thru headphones too.

the POD 2's distortion was definitely better, but not by enough to warrant the extra $100. IMO of course.

...

looks like Tech21 GT2 vs. Tech 21 Tri-A.C.

i just like the fact that the TRI-A.C. has three switchable channels, but i've heard the general consensus is the GT2 sounds a tad better.

since i'm looking for best recorded sound, i should probably go with the GT2 i'm thinking.
