Should I get a Rode NT2A or something else?

So I'm in the market for a new mic, and have my eyes set on the NT2A. I have been looking on ebay to get a general price, and see that the packs that include the shock mount and pop filter go for around US$370-400 new.

I will be using it for vocals only, is this the best mic for me for this kind of money oir should I be looking for another brand?

Any recommedations on an interface and preamp to use with this would help to, Ive done some research, but just want to gather some opinions. Willing to spend from $500-1k here.

Also I am planning on buying it in the states next month, so any recommendations on where I could pick one up for a good price in NYC or LA would be helpful.

I have loved my NT2-a's. I use them primarily on drum overheads, but I've used them on grand pianos, acoustic guitars, and vocals.

They sound crisp but not harsh.

One of the few Rode microphones that I don't have. Do you have a solo clip of them that you can post here pulling duty as overheads?

You could purchase what ever you want when you make up your mind via internet and have it shipped to where ever your going to be staying in NYC or LA then hand carry them home. Check put this site HERE and take a look at the Golden Age PRE-73 MK or the Chameleon Labs 7720 as preamps.

And you sir need an EV RE20 or at least entertain looking at that microphone.
 
A real sleeper (if you don't need multiple patterns) is the NT1000, they go way too cheap second hand and they sound great.

I have a Rode NTK but have been advised it doesn't mix as well as the Sputnik. Have one on the radar.....

What geniuses (read as Genie arses) come up with these statements? Does not mix as well:laughings: The NTK is a great mic, the K2 is better only because it has switchable pattens. Different mics also sound different on different singers so the comment "it does not mix as well" means nothing. Plenty of great recordings have been done with a NTK.
