Well, since you all have taken me down the path of digital recording (and I am well pleased if not poorer for it) I have a quick question....

I have a Fostex FD-4 with the SCSI 250MB Zip drive that I really don't think I have much use for now.

I there any reason that I should keep it since I'll be doing everything on the PC?

Perhaps there is a reason to keep it that I haven't thought of, but if not, I'll take this puppy to the local music store and use it in trade on a Fender Big Apple Strat that I've had my eye on.

Also, if I should ditch the Fostex, what would be an acceptable trade in value or price if I can find a buyer?

Thanks as always,

Mike

If you ever want to record live at a club, or
record a jam at somebody else's place, are you going to lug your computer around?

See..this is exactly why I frequent this site. Honest, practical, and experienced answers.

Thanks for pointing out the portability factor. Although I don't currently collaborate with anyone, once I get some material finished, that could possibly change.

I should have seen that reason to keep it, but I couldn't see much of anything over the stiffy I had for the Fender Big Apple Strat : )

Thanks again. Well, it looks like I'll have to find another way to help finance the Strat....blood...plasma....Ebay my wife's Beanie collection....<sigh>

Judging from your moniker you've already sold your soul; don't sweat it. Just get back to work making music. To hell with the strat.
Look for a Jazzmaster in good shape.
Fender's only real gift to axedom IMHO.

Yeah...you are probably right.

And its a good thing I no longer have my soul for leverage. The best I would hope to get is a 10% off discount toward the purchase of one of those swank JC Penney guitars with the speaker built in.

Oh, and I'll trade you some Beanie Babies for a Jazzmaster....What do you say : )

maybe you could make the fd-4 make money for you. offer your recording services to local talent looking to record demos or something. #1 rule for trying to buy new gear....make your equipment work for you.
